  Summary Information:

  • Between 1999 and 2000, the top-level Communist Vietnamese Officials secretly ceded to Communist Chinese Officials at least 270 square miles of land and 4247 square miles of sea. The process of repositioning the posts along the border is in progress and it is planned to be completed by the year 2005.

  • The concession was signed by only a few top Vietnamese Communist officials. The concession was being kept in secret for three years. When other Vietnamese Communist officials found out about this, even they themselves were angry and wrote a joined letter requesting the top officials to reject/re-negotiate the concession but nothing was being done. Please see the article of "Thu 20 Cu Tri" below.

  • As more Vietnamese throughout the world are aware of the concession, thousands of people have voiced their disagreement, including priests, bishops, monks, lawyers, etc. requesting the Vietnamese Communist officials to publicly announce the details of the concession and to take back our land and sea, but an answer was yet to be received.

  Important Past Histories:

  • In 1084 - Ly Dynasty of Vietnam and Sung Dynasty of China drew up borders between two countries.  These borders were later reaffirmed by the France and Manchurian Dynasty of China between 1885 and 1887.

  • In 1979 - China invaded part of Vietnam and although has since withdrawn, China still retained many of their military bases in Vietnam's soils.
  • China has a history of aggression toward other smaller southeast asia countries. For example, during WWII, taking advantage when the whole world was in chaos, China had invaded Tibet killing thousands of innocent monks and took over the country.

  Analysis:

  • Even its physical size is already many times larger than Vietnam, China's latest attempt to grab more land and sea from Vietnam shows that it is still greedy despite its already enormous size. Therefore, invading and acquiring Vietnam via force, bribery, or by any other means is definitely in their long-term plan. If China conquers Vietnam, it will then likely target other neighboring countries such as Thailand, Singapore, and others.

  • Based on its behavior, when there are other uncertainty or chaos in the world conditions in the future, China will use the same pattern that it used during WWII to take over Tibet and conquer Vietnam and other neighboring countries as well. Therefore, if not stopped now, China’s greedy land/sea grab and aggression will eventually destabilize the Far East region and can lead to war with neighboring countries. Once this happens, the free trade between the countries in the Far East region with the rest of the free world will be impacted as well.
